  1. This book talks about all the different kinds of people in schools. It talks about geeks, freaks, jocks, flirts, and nerds. Shane is a bully and picks on egg head. Shane makes fun of egghead by pushing him into the hallway in his underwear. Katie is a girl who is nice and she helps egghead when he need help like when he got locked out of the change room in his underwear. Katie could of left egghead by himself but she stayed and helped him and tried to help him not get embarrassed in front of the whole class. Egghead used Katie shirt to try to hide the pink underwear but it didn’t work he got embarrassed when the bell rang and everyone came out of class and seen egghead’s pink underwear, but also was embarrassed because he was so scared by the people he had pea his pants. Everyone started to laugh at egghead but then the small short bald principal came and called Katie and egghead both down to the office. Katie didn’t know what to say what happened to the principal. In the story it shows from every characters point of view.

  2. ya Taylor, i like how they show the story from the point of view of the nerd, the bully, and the innocent girl. But i wonder if at the end of the book that they will all come together and stand up for Will. I am not to sure because while Devon likes Katie he doesn't like Will and he cares about Shane. I think that by the end all of the characters true colors will shine through.

  3. I think that Devan, at the end of the book, will fall for Katie because she is one of the girls in school that he notices. Devan is part of the "bully group" but that doesn't mean that he is a bully. Devan just follows along with the group and doesn't really do too much. he isn't a bad guy. He is nice and will end up doing something to Katie in the end.

  4. Why do you think the author makes Will the stereotypical nerd? (Smart, bad clothing, interested in bugs, etc.) Why do you think these characteristics have become the stereotypical "loser" and not the social norm or "cool"?

  5. I agree with Little T Devan isn't a bad person he just does bad things and hangs out with terrible people like Shane, Shane is the one that is making him do all of this from peer pressure are for respect. Although he does like Katie i do not think that anything is going to happen with them because Devan has made wrong chooses in his life and maybe Katie won't be able to see through all that and still think he is a bad person.

  6. It will be interesting to see how this book will workout. Will Will change the way he dresses and acts? Will Katie still defend Will from Shane or will she give up and let him get bullied? Will Devan finally realize that Shane is nothing but a bully? Maybe even Shane will realize that it isn't right and will quit bulling Will. I like the way Toads talked about Devan and Katie. Will Devan think Katie is more important than Shane or do friends come first? We will just have to wait and see! :)

  7. SidTheKid and Toads do you not think it would show great character strength for Devan to go against Shane. I do not think most teenagers would date a girl that their friends or the school classified as a "loser."

  8. I agree with ELA teacher that it will be extremely hard for Devan going against Shane and the whole school. I believe that if he loves her enough that he won't care what Shane or the school thinks. All that he needs is Katie.

  9. hmmm not sure love can conquer all SidTheKid!!! I think the fear of being segregated and being dismissed by your peers in high school would prevent love from blossoming!

  10. If I was Devan I would never be able to handle every kid in the school thinking your a "loser". I also wouldn't want to be friends with a bully that picks on kids that wear clothes that you don't like. It will be a tough decision for Devan but I am sure he will make the right decision. :)

  11. My journal entry.....After pages 31-63, I have thought that after a couple more pages, Will will have to stand up for himself. He will get sick of Shane and freak out on him. Devan will fall for Katie even though that all the kids in school will be all over him for doing that. Devan won't care because Shane will realize that what he is doing is wrong because Devan will stand up to him and tell him to stop at what he has been doing to other innocent kids. Devan will realize that he doesn't need Shane and he will be better off without him and his troubles.

  12. ya i think your right but i wonder if it will be Will that is going to stand up to Shane or if it will be Devan standing up to Shane. If he does stand up to Shane i think he might do it for other reason like impressing Kate

  13. i agree little T after will put up with Shane i thought that he would have flipped on him or done something against him but of course he just takes it and does nothing about it. but i do not think that Katie will do anything with Devan because like a said before shes not going to forgive him for all the things he has done. but i think that Devan is going to retaliate against Shane and turn on him for the bad person that Shane has made him become.

  14. I agree with both of you, but do you think that Will will actually stand up to Shane? Do you think that he will have the nerve and the guts to do it? I personally think that Will will retaliate after one of Shane's fiascoes. Will will have his adrenalin pumping and will flip out on Shane because he can't take it anymore.

  15. I agree with you guys with what you commented but at the end of these pages Will was getting picked on by Shane. Do you think that their is a chance that Devan will step in a stand up to Shane or will Katie come back in and help Will? It will be interesting to read the next few pages to find out what happens.

  16. To tell you the truth, I think that both Katie and Devan will step in and help of Will. They will all stand up to Shane because they are sick of the stuff that Shane is doing for no apparent reason.

  17. Pages 64-97
In these pages a lot things happened. At the start we find out that Katie steps in to help Will but when she does this Shane turns around and tried to punch her. Right before he punches her Devan steps in and saves Katie from Shane so she dodges the punch. Next came the Science Fair where Katie and Will had an ant farm. It was so amazing but when will stands for the Nation Anthem Shane walks in and sees Will. Shane picks on Will and destroys Will and Katie’s ant farm. When all of this happened Devan was by his project and watched the whole thing. By the end of these pages Devan and Katie meet and Devan tries to tell her what happened about her ant farm. It seemed like Katie was really starting to like Devan and realized that he was a nice guy. At the very end of the pages Katie and her Grandma went shopping and got a haircut for the dance that Katie was going to that night. I wonder if at this dance is where Devan and Katie will get together and date each other. Will Katie let everyone know about Shane secret how he like Erin or will she keep it to herself? I believe that this book is going to get really interesting in the next few pages. Maybe Shane will get with Erin and she will change the way he acts. :)

  18. I Think that the next section will start to be the climax because of all of these rising actions that have started to come up. I also think that the ant farm for Will is more than a project but more like a society where he feels he is loved and accepted.

  19. I agree with you Sid the Kid, the story still has a lot to conquer. There will be some drama at the end of this book. I can't wait to read the end. It will be pretty interesting.

  20. The ant farm kind of was the tie between Katie and Will. I wonder if it being smashed and broken is foreshadowing the end of their friendship? It is funny how we begin to have empathy for the bully in the story was we learn more and more about his home life.

  21. Hey everyone, this was a big chapter to blog on. When we left off everyone is going to the dance. But before the dance Katie decides that she doesn’t want to go anymore, I think that she doesn’t want to go with her friends because she realizes that she has changed into someone else since her dad’s cancer. Since then she developed a great sense of character and she just doesn’t put up with useless talk. Now when Devon and Shane get to the dance he saw Katie there and he realized that she was beautiful, and Katie realized that she likes him too. But before they dance together she grabs Will on the dance floor. But when everyone starts to talk about her, she says some mean stuff to will and he storms out. I think she said that stuff about as a defense mechanism for her to look good in front of her friends.
So now everyone is mad at everyone so let’s jumped towards the ski trip where Shane and Brad start picking on Will and throw his hat that was made by his mom down the hill. So to stand up for himself Will goes down the big hill and crashes. When they find him he is in a coma, so now I think that Devon has completely changed and is sticking up the underdog now. I always kind of thought that Devon would come around because he seemed like he has a good heart but got caught up in the wrong group.

  22. I agree with toads, Devon was never a bad guy but he was just with the wrong group of people. If he would have been by himself from the start, he would have been fine. being in the group gives him a bad bad reputation.

  23. In the end, I never thought that it would end like it did. I never thought that Will would end up leaving. I thought that Katie would have cleared it up with Will. But she didn't and now she has to live with never really telling hm how she felt about him. Devan grew up and moved on from Shane.

  24. I agree with you guys and think that Devan isn't the guy he was at the start of the book. He is a changed boy. I think Devan is really confused because he knows that if he changes groups that Shane and Brad will pick on him and he will be the loser of the school. Devan also knows that if he doesn't go on Katie's side that she will never date Devan. I think that Devan will change and in the end will date Katie because she will find out that he is a changed boy and really isn't the mean guy he was at the start of the book. I wonder what surprise will be in the last section of the book? :)

  25. I agree with Sid the Kid but do you think that Devan was still a bad guy for not doing anything when Shane was doing all of his normal festivities. He could have ended it from the start and Will might not have ended up in a coma. Will might not have moved away because maybe his parents though that Will couldn't take any more. It might have been a different story from the start if Devan was the good guy.

  26. I think devan was still a bad kid for not doing anything for Shane. I also think devan has changed his overall personality later in the book.

  27. i wonder even if he is a good guy at heart if he has the guts to stand up to a long time friend and to some of his peers. i also like how this book deals with problems that all kids deal with at our age because we grow up with these kids then we realize that's not who we want to be, but how do you break your own image that you have made.
